While I disliked last night's episode, it appears many of you enjoyed it, so I'm going to chalk it up to my sour mood this week (mass killings tend to do that to me).
I just thought the whole thing was a little self serving. Did we learn anything new? Nope.
It was just more questions, first and foremost being, what is Tessa from "Las Vegas" doing parachuting onto the island? Was she running from James Caan? Her name according to spoiler sites is Naomi, another Biblical name (like Jacob and Ben).
Anyway, her's some observations I had and some I have culled from weird wide web...
And did anyone notice the parallels between Desmond's little camping trip and "Stand By Me"? The whistling song, the talk of superheroes and the near death experience, all odes to Stephen King.
Did Desmond, by saving Charlies' life, change the parachutist's identity? How? Even if you buy into chaos theory, the parachutist was already determined at that point.
Can they produce good wine in Scotland? Or are the Scottish monks in the south of France?
Why was "Catch 22" (the book in the backpack) in a foreign language? Was it Portugese, the same language they were speaking in the artic ice station scene from last season?
Have you ever given someone a mix tape? Have you ever received a mixtape? The whole premise in a romantic relationship seems odd to me, although I loved making my own mixtapes for road trips. I even named them after where I was going. (I realize this has nothing directly to do with the show, I just wanted to ask, since Sawyer brought it up.)
I now turn to the observations from popcandy's message board, still the best message board for LOST goofiness:
As Desmond points out, Moriah is the site of Abraham’s attempt to carry out God’s command to sacrifice Isaac, his favorite son. This is generally regarded as a profound test of Abraham’s faith. This theme from the flashback is used to establish Desmond’s belief that he has to be willing to sacrifice Charlie in order to gain his own redemption, or at least be reunited with Penny. This also serves as a contrast with the the “man of faith” Locke from season 1 (episode 1.19, “Deus Ex Machina”) who believed that Boone was the sacrifice that the island required.
nobody mentioned how hot Kate looked??? They want you to notice and I am sure she works hard to stay in shape so the least we can do is notice and say something witty like...wow
The strangest thing to me tonight was the hula-girl dashboard ornament. What would that be doing with the parachuter?
Was Kate really crying when she seduced Sawyer? Honestly, I wish they'd cool it with this love triangle for a bit. That's not the reason I watch 'Lost,' and I'd be perfectly happy if Kate chose James and they could just go at it in the tent for a few episodes. But maybe that's just me.
I'm sure someone at this very moment is linking to the Moriah Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moriah
And yes, it's a little exciting to have an outside visitor land in a parachute. But could this be just another character we'll sort of get to know and then see killed off in a few episodes? I was really hoping it was going to be Penny ...

If you saw a parallel to "Stand by Me," it probably was on purpose. Were any of those actors in that movie?
Desmond was arrogant to think he could simply wish Penelope onto the Island. Nothing in the visions they shared with the viewers indicated that was Penny.
Why the book and picture of Desmond and Penny? The answer could be as mundane as a used book. I have bought used books that had "stuff" in them. My favorite was a leather bookmark (which I still use).
My theory is that the parachute lady said something to the "guy who supposedly died" to take the phone and contact the Others, where ever they are/went. He didn't die for real, he just faked it by biting into a pill or something that made his mouth foam or slow down his heart rate and convulse, but would wake up later. Similar to the paralyzing spiders on the island. The Others can't be trusted, but for some studpid reason the Lost survivors keep on doing it. Where is Locke, Michael, and Walt? I think they should have kept Anna Lucia and the African pastor guy so they could help to fight the others with Saaed, Locke, Sawyer, Kate, and Jin.
